some of the people that we work with

Until 2012, Richard was Director of the University of London Centre for European Protected Area Research (CEPAR), and Senior Lecturer in Conservation at Birkbeck College, where he ran the University’s postgraduate programme in Countryside and Protected Area Management. It was established in 1990 and still going strong as one of the few Masters degrees in this subject in Europe.
Now freelance, Richard undertakes research, evaluation and training related to landscape, heritage and wildlife conservation and management.
Past work undertaken with CTP colleagues includes: preparation of management planning guidance for non-statutory countryside sites for the Countryside Commission, and of today’s statutory guidance for AONBs under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act; the evaluation of Defra’s Sustainable Development Fund;  ‘best practice’ guidance for National Parks and AONBs for Natural England, and national evaluation of the Landscape Partnership programme for the Heritage Lottery Fund, as well as training and facilitation in management and management planning, interpretation and monitoring for the National Trust and other ‘third sector’ organisations.
